*** Basic knowledge Of Ozone |
|
  |
1. Ozone history
It exists in nature since ancient times. (→ is not a synthetic material)
It has been proved to have bactericidal, deodorant, bleach and other effects 100 years ago.
In Europe, is widely used in the field of water purification. (Ozone is usually used to disinfection of tap water in Europe.)
In Osaka Prefecture of Japan, ozone is mainly used in water treatment plants. (→ In Japan it began using ozone 30 years ago
2. Concern Ozone in various of fields
In recent years, the industry on the use of ozone increase year after year the situation, mainly in the context of the following could be considered:
â‘ For the purpose of protecting the environment, to restrict on the use of pharmaceutical.
â‘¡Such as food poisoning, infections and other diseases, improve people's safe awareness.
â‘¢People's safety consciousness is increased by various accidents, such as food poisoning, infections and other diseases ect.
3. The principle of ozone generator
Generated in the natural world.:
Generated by the sun's ultraviolet (→ ozone layer, coastal, mountain, etc.)
Occasionally ozone generated:
Photocopying at the time of the use of photocopiers, the smell when a short circuit and welding, etc.
Man-made ozone-generated:
Silent discharge, ultraviolet lighting, electronics, etc
|
| Exist as a stable state of oxygen molecules in the air. |
  |
Separated by the electronic energy as a form of oxygen atoms can not exist. |
|
Through re-combination, three oxygen atoms combine to form ozone. |

The Physical Character of Ozone
In the normal temperature, the lower concentration ozone is colorless gas. When the concentration attains 15%, it shows light blue. The ozone can be dissolved in water, the solubility in water of ozone in normal temperature can be 10 times higher than oxygen, 25 times than the air. But the stability of the ozone solution is mostly influenced by the impurity in the water, especially when the metal ion exists, the ozone can be quickly decomposed into oxygen, but the decomposition in purified water is very slow. The density of ozone is 14g/l(0 oC, 0.1MP), the boiling point is -111 oC, melting point is -192 oC. The molecule structure of ozone is not steady; it is easier to self-decompose in the water than in the air. Although the solubility of ozone in water is as 10 times as oxygen, its practical solubility is very little, because it accords with Henry law, the solubility will form proportion with partial and total pressure of the system. The content of ozone in the air is very low; so the partial pressure is very low, accordingly it will force the ozone in the water transgress from the interface of the water and the air, making the ozone in the water always in the condition of decreasing.
The Chemical Character of Ozone
The ozone is not steady, can be decomposed into oxygen in the normal temperature. The oxido-reduction potential of ozone, chlorine, hydrogen dioxide is separately 2.07,1.36 and 1.28V,therefore, it shows that ozone has the strongest oxidation in treating water. Ozone is the burst of unsaturated organic molecule under the force of oxidation, letting the ozone combining on the double bonds of the organic molecule, forming the ozonide. The self-burst of ozonide produces carboxyl compound and zwitterions of acid and basic group, the latter one is not steady, which can be decomposed to acid and aldehyde.
